Visit Dabbabia / Plan Your Visit
Explore one of Egypt’s most fascinating geological landmarks — the Dabbabia Protected Area, located about 35 km southeast of Luxor along the Qift–Quseir road.
Recognized globally as the GSSP for the Paleocene–Eocene boundary, Dabbabia offers visitors a chance to walk through layers of Earth’s history, witnessing rocks that record a 55-million-year-old climate event.
Visitors can join guided tours across the exposed rock formations, observe marine fossils and shale–chalk layers, and experience the stunning desert landscape that surrounds this unique geological heritage site.
Core drilling and detailed fossil analyses have made the site a global benchmark for understanding rapid carbon-cycle shifts and mass extinctions.
Access is permitted only with authorized guides to ensure protection of the fragile formations.
Comfortable hiking shoes, sun protection, and plenty of water are essential.
Educational groups, students, and researchers are welcome through prior arrangement with the site’s management authority.
Your visit not only offers a scientific adventure but also contributes directly to the conservation and sustainable management of Egypt’s geological heritage
