Conservation & Management
The Dabbabia Protected Area is a legally designated geological heritage site, protected under Egyptian Law 102/1983 and Prime Ministerial Decree No. 109/2007. It is also listed on Egypt’s UNESCO Tentative List for its global significance as the GSSP (Global Boundary Stratotype Section and Point) marking the Paleocene–Eocene boundary.
Future plans aim to establish Dabbabia Geological Park, featuring eco-friendly facilities, guided trails, and interpretation centers that support both scientific research and sustainable tourism.
By integrating environmental protection with education and community involvement, Dabbabia serves as a model for balancing conservation and development in Egypt’s natural heritage sites
The management of Dabbabia focuses on preserving its fragile rock formations, fossil layers, and surrounding desert habitats. Conservation priorities include monitoring erosion, regulating access, and preventing illegal fossil collection while ensuring that scientific research and educational visits continue responsibly.
